Domaine Arlaud's story began in 1942 with the union of Joseph Arlaud from Ardèche and Renée Amiot, whose family had deep roots in Burgundian viticulture. In 1966, the family acquired a historic 14th-century building for wine aging, which became an iconic symbol featured on their wine labels.
2003 marked a significant transition as the domaine began shifting operations to a modern facility in Morey Saint Denis. However, the ancient cellar in Nuits Saint Georges remains in use, housing the estate's wine library and hosting special tastings. This venerable space embodies three generations of Burgundian hospitality and tradition.
A notable part of the domaine's history involves the Roncevie plot, purchased by Joseph Arlaud in 1964. Originally classified as Gevrey-Chambertin land, a decree that same year reclassified the Arlaud property to Bourgogne status, while surrounding vineyards retained their higher classification.
Despite this reclassification, the Roncevie vineyard, with its lime-clay soils, produces wines of remarkable quality. These wines are characterized by their juicy, generous, and fruit-forward nature. Wine enthusiasts particularly appreciate the surprising depth found in this refreshing and approachable Bourgogne.
A wonderfully balanced Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Arlaud. Medium bodied with delicate flavours of cherry and raspberry sitting on a bed of sweet vanilla spice. There's a keen streak of acidity that adds a lovely freshness to the long finish. Great finesse and seriously good value for money.
