Manuel Formigo, born into a multi-generational winemaking family, embodies energy, charisma, and entrepreneurial spirit. In 2006, he led his family's return to their artisanal winemaking roots, moving away from industrial production.
Today, the Formigo estate spans 6 hectares across Avia and Mino, championing native Ribeiro varieties. Embracing traditional methods, they maintain a practical approach to vineyard management and winemaking, drawing from their experience in large-scale production. Manuel's business acumen shines through in naming his house wine "Formiga" after himself - a playful nod to the Galician word for "ant."
The Formigo Blanco exemplifies their terroir-driven approach. This field blend comprises 70% Treixadura, 30% Torrontes, and Godello, sourced from gravel and granite vineyards in Beade province and showcasing the best of Ribeiro. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, it offers a delightful balance of freshness and softness.
Tasting notes reveal crisp green apple, crushed white flowers, and a subtle salinity. This crowd-pleasing wine pairs excellently with takeout sushi, showcasing Manuel's talent for crafting accessible yet distinctive wines.
