Domaine Henri Magnien, a modest six-hectare estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, boasts a rich winemaking heritage dating back to 1600. Established in its current form by Henri Magnien in 1987, the domaine is now under the stewardship of Charles Magnien, the 12th generation vintner.

The estate primarily cultivates old vines in Gevrey-Chambertin and Corton, featuring their proprietary Pinot Noir clone, the Pinot Magnien. This unique variety is characterized by thick-skinned grapes with limited juice yield.

Since taking the helm in 2009, Charles Magnien has embraced a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques, focusing on environmental sustainability and terroir expression. The resulting wines exhibit depth, suppleness, and elegance, achieved through classic oak aging and moderate extraction methods.

Despite its relatively recent establishment, the domaine benefits from vines aged 70 to 100 years, imparting distinctive strength and spiciness to their wines. These creations are suitable for both immediate consumption and long-term cellaring.

The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, available here in magnum format, showcases grapes from vines over 60 years old, ideally situated in the Côte de Nuits. This vintage offers a harmonious bouquet of sweet spices and peony, complemented by well-balanced black fruit notes. The wine promises excellent drinkability and aging potential, consistent with the domaine's reputation.
