Le Riche, a family-run estate founded in 1996 by Etienne Le Riche, stands as one of the Cape's premier Cabernet Sauvignon producers. Nestled on the Helderberg Mountain slopes near historic Stellenbosch, the winery is embraced by the majestic Hottentots Holland Mountain range.
This Stellenbosch classic showcases expert craftsmanship, blending grapes from four distinct terroirs - from the cool, gravelly slopes facing False Bay to the rich, red granitic soils surrounding Stellenbosch. The Le Riche family's decision to specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon has proven astute, earning them the moniker "Cabernet Masters."
Le Riche wines are characterized by elegance and refinement, boasting fine-grained tannins and subtle oak integration. While not aiming to replicate Bordeaux, they share the balance and poise often found in top Margaux wines. Their limited availability outside South Africa makes their presence on UK soil a rare privilege.
The wine presents a pure varietal nose, offering fine cassis and black cherry aromas, complemented by violet and cedar spice notes. Its palate is ripe and fruit-forward, with fresh blackcurrant depth balanced by lively acidity. Well-integrated oak and fine-grained tannins support a lingering finish.
This Cabernet pairs excellently with slow-cooked lamb shank or rich, savoury beef or vegetable stews.
