Bodegas Lopez de Heredia is the oldest winery in Haro and a bastion of traditional, old-school Rioja. Born out of the Bordelais’ quest to find new sources of grapes as phylloxera decimated French vineyards in the late nineteenth century, Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta soon realised that he had a very special vineyard in the form of Vina Tondonia, and decided to do it himself, he went on to become one of Spain's most revered producers.
The 2006 Reserva in magnum format is a wine that will live on & on, drink now by all means, it's wonderful, a classic, but if you you have the patience, buy a few of these magnificent bottles & put them away for 10-15 years, your resolve will be rewarded with something quite special.
