San Polino Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

San Polino is the almost 30 years' labour of love of Luigi Fabbro and Katia Nussbaum who have an holistic approach to viticulture, believing that they must respect and encourage all biodiversity possible in the vineyard, as the larger the pool of diversity, the greater possibility for natural pest control and the healthier the grapes, "creating wines as complete reflections of the biodiversity of their terroir".

According to San Polino's website: "In an orchestra our Brunello di Montalcino Riserva would be the cello, deep, resonating and powerful". 

Produced only in the best years with sangiovese grapes from the Helichrysum vineyards at 450 metres planted on sandy loam and volcanic soil mix, this Brunello Riserva shows dark lively ruby to intense deep garnet colour, with a nose of blackberry, dark plum, fig, forest-floor, sun-baked rocks, a little salinity, spice, mushroom and liquorice, this is a full, corpulent, dry, wine with smooth tannins which will soften more as the years pass. Plenty of structure and body, a big bold wine with an incredibly long finish.

As for food pairings, this is a big wine that requires bold flavours such as red meat, full-fat cheeses, roasted vegetables.
