Romain Taupenot leads the ninth generation of his family's winemaking legacy in Morey-Saint-Denis. The domaine's roots stretch back to the 17th century, but its current form emerged in 1963 when Romain's parents, Denise Merme and Jean Taupenot, married. This union combined holdings from the Taupenot family in Saint-Romain with those of the Mermes in Morey-Saint-Denis, creating a diverse portfolio spanning both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.
As a child, Romain helped with harvests and sold his grandfather's wines to summer travelers. However, he first pursued a career in finance after studying business in Paris. In 1998, Romain returned to manage the domaine alongside his sister, Virginie.
Today, the siblings oversee 13.5 hectares of vineyards, producing nineteen wines across seventeen appellations. Their holdings include significant premier cru and grand cru sites, with old vines propagated through massal selection. Since 2001, the domaine has practiced organic farming, aiming to craft wines that authentically express each climat's character.
This polished red wine offers a perfumed bouquet of crushed violets, dark cherries, and soft spices. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with supple tannins, showcasing ripe red berries, freshness, and spice. Its elegance and intensity pair well with roasted or grilled red meats.
